Forecast Lithuania — Turkey in the UEFA Nations League match

On 7 June 2022, the Lithuanian team will host Turkey in the second round of the UEFA Nations League at the Vetra stadium in Vilnius. Full statistics and current odds for the match can be found at

Lithuanian national team

The Lithuanian national team is a very unassuming underdog in the World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, though they have often found themselves on the outside looking in, and have at times competed against more established sides. Alas, the Yellows have only managed one win and seven defeats in World Cup 2022 qualifying, finishing last in their group. Moreover, even in the current UEFA Nations League campaign, Valdas Ivanauskas’ side made an unsuccessful start, losing to Luxembourg 0-2, which has put them at risk of finishing last in their group.

Turkey’s form

The Turkish national team is a much tougher national side, and they have even qualified for big international tournaments on a regular basis. Yes, they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, because they failed to qualify for Qatar directly, and they lost through the knock-out stages to Portugal in their opening game, losing their chances of qualifying for the main start of the season. Instead, the Luna Stars have already slipped down to the third strongest division in the UEFA Nations League, where they are the clear favourites and stand a good chance of qualifying for Euro 2024. The Turks crushed the Faroe Islands 4-0 in their first game.

History of head-to-head encounters between Lithuania and Turkey
Lithuania and Turkey have never played a head-to-head game before. This encounter will be the debut in the history of their full-time rivalry.

Professional odds and predictions

The Turkish team is the clear favourite in their UEFA Nations League group, so they obviously cannot be expected to lose points in any game. The only question is how well the Moon Stars will beat their opponents. Judging by their attitude in the first game of the tournament, where they crushed the Faroe Islands – 4-0, they are not going to feel sorry for anyone. The Lithuanian team has not been a serious contender for anything important for a long time, and they started the current UEFA Nations League with a home defeat against Luxembourg, so we are forced to place our bet on the Turkish team’s victory with a handicap (-1.5) at the odds of about 1.80.

The Turkish national team is too strong in the third strongest division of the UEFA Nations League, so in the first match of the tournament the “moon stars” did not allow the national team of the Faroe Islands not a single shot in the field of goal. The Lithuanian national team, on the other hand, could offer nothing to the Luxembourg national team even in their home game, posing the least threatening attacking performance. In the upcoming game we cannot expect that Valdas Ivanauskas’s charges will suddenly change their attacking style, so we have to guess that the Lithuanian national team will score less than 0.5 goals at odds of about 1.80.

Cengiz Ünder is one of the stars of the Turkish national team, despite his modest age. At the age of 24, he has played for Roma and Leicester and spent the last season with Marseille. In 32 games for the French club in Ligue 1, he scored 10 goals – his personal best performance. Furthermore, he has scored six goals in his last 14 games for the national team, including the one he scored the day before against the Faroe Islands. Obviously, the young player is in good form and you can bet on Cengiz Undera’s goal with the odds of about 2.30.

Our prediction: Turkey win with a handicap (-1.5) at odds of 1.80
